Translation Process by Language Expert
Below is the language expert location and detailed information on what translation process the language expert follows during translation process.
a. Arabic Translation Process
| Language Expert | Location of Language Expert |
| TBD in DPS Content Team (Meanwhile supported by other content teams) | GE |
The first step of the translation process is that the LE Translates names/entities by own and then compare results with the results perceived using translation tools (google translator, Microsoft Translator).
Example record
: STATE ENTERPRISE FOR MECHANICAL INDUSTRIES
LE searches translated name online to double check if there are similar results matching with his own translated name.
| Results |
| مؤسسة الدولة للصناعات الميكانيكية |
| المؤسسة الحكومية للصناعات الميكانيكية |
| المؤسسة العامة للصناعات الميكانيكية |
| الشركة العامة للصناعات الميكانيكية |
After completing all research, LE searches official name in the google search engine to double check and then considers official source name.
b. Chinese Translation Process

1. Names listed on government official websites
All the entities and individuals on the spreadsheet are designated from or in either China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, or Singapore. Currently, only the Hong Kong and Taiwan Government maintains an online company search system that also provides the Chinese names of companies.
In the case of Hong Kong Companies, the Chinese names obtain in very straightforward way.
Here the Chinese name is given and can be used right away.
But in the case that the system does not provide a Chinese name, name translated with the help of google translator.
2. QCC Chinese business directory
QCC has been a great source and tool for the double byte translation project for Mandarin. It provides comprehensive details of Chinese entities (former name, former address, current address, company structure and its subsidiary) which is essential detail for the DPS team to provide accurate translation for our clients.
Another useful features in QCC is the subsidiary/branch information. It allows us to easily identify the relationship or structure of one company in the case of sanction applied to the parent company or subsidiary only (etc Huawei, it has multiple subsidiaries and not all are sanctioned by the US government).
3. Names need to search on Google
Since the Chinese government company search system does not allow English name searches (only in Chinese), those Chinese names searched on google. It is hard to search for Chinese companies on Google because Google is banned in mainland China. In addition to that, Google search results usually only return results in English. Such names translated using a few known Chinese words.
Eg. BEIJING JINGOLD AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION (LIAONING) CO., LTD.
Instead of searching the whole English name, search “BEIJING JINGOLD AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION (LIAONING) CO., LTD. 北京” on Google.
“北京” is the word “Beijing” in Chinese.
4. Direct Translation (Names that Cannot find anywhere)
In the case that a translation could not be found either through government records or through Google, expert has directly translated names word-for-word. This method is used for the entities that are based in Singapore as most Singaporean companies do not carry official Chinese names.
Eg. Noble Consulting Group Pte Ltd 贵族顾问集团私人有限公司
The more common names are easily translatable because for names like John, Peter, Mark, etc.
From English to Chinese names are interpreted and translated based on general understanding of the Chinese language, using the most common characters seen in Chinese names.
Names which are in other languages (Thai/Arabic, etc.) or rare English names are being translated using Chinese characters to reflect the name’s pronunciation.
c. Japanese translation process

1. In Japanese language, there are three different characters as follow:
Kanji: (simplified Chinese character); Kanji is a system of symbols that represent words or ideas, and that can have different meanings and pronunciations depending on their context. A kanji can be a word all by itself, like 木 (which means tree) or a kanji can be part of another word like 木造 (which means ‘wooden, or made of wood’).
Hiragana: Hiragana is the basic Japanese phonetic alphabet. It represents every sound in the Japanese language. Therefore, theoretically everything can be written in hiragana. However, because Japanese is written with no spaces, this will create nearly indecipherable text. Hiragana is used along with kanji to write all native Japanese words.
Katakana represents the same set of phonetic sounds as Hiragana except all the characters are different. Katakana is mainly used for words imported from foreign languages. It can also be used to emphasize certain words similar to the function of italics.
2. Japanese person/individual name is written in Kanji Character (1 block of symbol represent the words)
For Example: Watanabe can be written as「渡辺」or「渡部 or [渡邊 ]; so if a name was given in alphabets; without any hints of other such as individual profiling (Head of Yamazaki Yakuza etc); it is almost impossible to convert the name into correct Kanji character; so the other option is to translate the name into phonetic Japanese character which is to write in Hiragana (Watanabe = わたなべ).
3. Translating Company name to English:
When converting company name from English to Japanese; Katakana character will be used. However, there are few cases like:
English name is a mix between known Japanese wordings and English wordings.
Example: Mitsubishi Ltd; instead of translated to Katakana; kanji or kanji + hiragana can be used to write the name.
Name can only be translated to Kanji if the company name in Kanji could be find online and have the same address from the name list.
English name is a mix between unknown Japanese wordings and English wordings.
Unknown Japanese wording could be a Japanese person name; or a place’s name but written in alphabets.
Example: Akira and partners
“Akira” is a person name in Japan and there are few selection of Kanji (that can be over ruled); and since it is a company name; the best way is to write it in katakana (phonetics) unless it could find the company online with its Japanese name.
4. Spacing between wording in Japanese Katakana and translating “&”
Hiragana normally written without spacing; but katakana wordings especially when translating foreign name/language phonetically; instead of space, special character [ ・ ] were used, use to separate each words.
For Example: Akira and partners = あきらあんどぱーとなず (hiragana) = アキラ・アンド・パートナーズ (katakana)
In Katakana, spacing was replaced by the special character “・”
If the company name given as [Akira & Partners], the & character translated as the same = アキラ&パートナーズ
5. Co, Ltd, K.K at the end of the company name
In Japan, there are only 株式会社 (kabushikigaisya) as company title. When registering foreign company in Japan, K.K, Ltd, Co., Co. Ltd etc. can be used but when translating to Japanese; all will be translated as kabushikigaisya (株式会社) and it can be located in front of company name (highlighted in yellow in the table) or mostly located at the back of the company name.
Below is the example of several big and well-known Japan companies, in English and Japanese (official name).
| | Japanese character used in the company name |
| 東京ガス株式会社 | Kanji + Katakana |
| 株式会社みずほ銀行 | Hiragana + Kanji |
| 楽天株式会社 | Kanji |
| トヨタ自動車株式会社 | Katakana + Kanji |
| 昭和電工株式会社 | Kanji |
| イオン株式会社 | Katakana |
| キャノン株式会社 | Katakana |
d. Russian Translation Process

| DPS Content Team | GE |
As the first step of the Russian translation process, LE Translates names/entities using different translation tools (google translator, DeepL, Microsoft translator.
For Example: Translating entity “Russian Financial Corporation Bank, JSC” into Russian language.
LE first creates their own version of translation then compare it with the ones provided by online translators and check if there are any grammar mistakes.
The corrected version of translated entity (Russian Financial Corporation Bank JSC) is Банк "Российская Финансовая Корпорация"АО.
In Russian language words sometimes change their forms and get different endings. These forms, mostly online translation tools aren’t able to translate the names with the desired accuracy and give them the right ending; hence the correct way of translation is by putting the words in a correct form and giving them the right ending.
| |
| АО "РУССКИЙ ФИНАНСОВОЙ КОРПОРАЦИОННЫЙ БАНК" |
| БАНК РОССИЙСКОЙ ФИНАНСОВОЙ КОРПОРАЦИИ ОАО |
Correct Translation By LE | Банк "Российская Финансовая Корпорация" AO |
Note: the noticeable difference with endings. (Word endings are highlighted in yellow and red)
If the translated name searched on internet, the exact Russian name from official source matches with LE Translation.
There are some other reliable sources for official names:
e. Spanish Translation Process

There are various sources to verify whether the translation is correct or not. Translated names can be available at official news websites in Mexico or Latin America. In case if one name is not published then there are rules in Spanish language that specify which names have accent mark for default or for example the names of entities that are in another language are left with the original name and it is not correctly translate it into Spanish as a general rule of the same.
Also, Google search engine can be used. In most cases, Google will provide many reliable sources to verify whether the translation is correct or not.
For example: ALVAREZ VAZQUEZ, Jose Gerardo

The first step is to look for an official name of organization in Turkish by adding “Türkçe,” “Türkiye” or “Türkçesi” to Alias name and then google search it. Method here is to open at least three legit links.
In case if an organization/company has an official website, it is better to translate the website itself in English (when needed translation from Turkish) or vice versa and use the name that has been translated.
Using worldwide open database websites, such as:
And for those organizations/companies that are registered in Greece, following link is the best as it provides some detailed description and information and is available in Turkish, English and Greek:
Translation validation project:
After completing the translation process, language experts themselves do validation of their translation due to the state of not being available of more language experts.
Estimated SLA of Translation:

** the above ETA is subject to availability of all the resources considering Language Expert, Volume of Aliases, Technical Error (load process), Complexity Issues with Language/Translation and Pending Development Items (ADOs).
Once language expert submits final translated aliases; Content Team performs few checks points as stated below:
Duplications: Two RegAliasesID have same RegEntityID and have similar translation then eliminate one and add that eliminated one in the excluded list.
Separate Non-Translatable Aliases: There are non-translatable aliases like Abbreviation, websites, or IMO numbers.
Translation is already available in Content: If translation is already loaded previously and it is still existing in content due to modification in that entry then such entries removed from the translation to evade the duplications.
Load translation in content
After performing spot check, DPS content team prepares standard file of translated aliases to load in content. And translated aliases are loaded in content through “Load DPS Alias Translations” lookup.
Navigation: Production: DPS Admin (1014) > Lookups > Load DPS Alias Translations
Excluded translated aliases
After separating non-translatable aliases from translation sheet, content team adds them into “Load DPS Translation Exclusions” lookup considering the result that loaded entries in the exclusion list will remove entries from DPS Aliases Missing Translation.
