DPS Content Maintenance: Managing Low Quality Aliases

We received client feedback regarding receiving more false positives in Dow Jones lists, and this is because of low-quality aliases, e.g., "John" and "Smith". So to reduce these false positives, the DPS content team is going to remove existing low-quality aliases from Dow Jones lists and all the standard DPS lists as well.
The project is classified into two categories:
  • Dow Jones Lists
  • DPS Standard Lists

Dow Jones lists

For Dow Jones lists project is executed in various phases:
Phase-1: Low Quality AKA (English Names)
The DBA team has successfully removed all low-quality AKAs (English names) from Dow Jones lists.
Phase-2: Low quality AKA (Original Script)
The CAB meeting approved the low-quality AKA (Original Script) non-English query, and the DPS content team successfully tested it, so all low-quality AKA (Original Script) was removed from Dow Jones lists.
Phase-3: Dow Jones Low Quality AKA (Reclassified AKA) (In process)
By doing some research, we identified that the new AKA type ‘Reclassified AKA’ used to be Low Quality AKA. These are the ones that Dow Jones has determined they feel are low quality, aka. This is still a work in progress and is under QA testing.
Phase-4: Spelling Name Variations
There is a new AKA that was created by Dow Jones to be able to handle different variations of how names are spelled. Currently, we do not have a way to differentiate those in the XML extract. We are doing additional research to understand the full scope of the data and then potentially discussing with Dow Jones how to identify spelling variations that are low quality AKA.

DPS Standard Lists

For all DPS standard lists other than Dow Jones, DPS content team have identified various low-quality AKA across various lists and already started removing it from the system with the ETA of 31st March 2023.
Some of the methods to identify low-quality AKA
Various regulatory sources have different definition to represent low quality AKA. Some represent it with low quality some represent with weak alias.
Alias consist of the title information should be consider as low quality AKA and we have transferred this information in entity remarks field.
