FTZ Management: Preparation - Staging Data Transfer Process

The
Staging Data Transfer
screen is used for transferring file data from the staging tables to the production tables and is necessary to complete in order to start the Daily Processing. This screen can be accessed by choosing
Staging Data Transfer
from the
Preparation
menu.
During implementation, you may have elected to have this process run automatically upon loading files into the application. If this is the case, you do not need to visit the Staging Data Transfer screen on a daily basis, and can continue straight onto the Validation step of Daily Processing.
The configuration of the partner/site will determine whether multiple processes can be initiated in the same day, but most commonly the system expects to Stage once per day, and once Staging has been completed will not allow Staging of the same TxnDate. This is in order to maintain FIFO integrity.
Upon initial screen load, you will see a few dates on the screen:
STAGING DATA TRANSFER (FIELDS)
Description
Last Staging Data Moved
The last date data was transferred from the staging tables to the production tables. Generally, this will be two days ago.
Moving Staging Data for Date
The next date for which data will move from the staging tables to the production tables. To choose a different import date, click the calendar and choose a date. It is also possible to enter a date into
Moving Staging Data for Date
. Generally, this defaults to yesterday as within a US Foreign Trade Zone you process one day behind.

Staging Data Transfer Process

  1. After the staging data dates have been specified, click
    Start Transfer Now
. This step ensures that the FIFO or Inventory Processing has been marked as finalized before any staging transactions are loaded.
    • If after selecting the Move Staging Data for Date the
      Start Transfer Now
button remains greyed out, check to ensure that all staging data is present for the selected date. If there are no FIFO transactions for that date, the system will not allow Staging Data Transfer to be kicked off. In this scenario, you would expect to see the below message:
    • If data is added into the system, click on
      Refresh
to check if staging is now allowed to take place.
    • If an Inventory Balance file is not available for the selected Date, a prompt will appear, stating that inventory cannot be reconciled if the process is continued.
    • This is not a hard stop and will allow you to continue with staging by clicking the Start Transfer Now button, but will pop-up requesting confirmation to complete this action. Click
      OK
to proceed, or Cancel to cancel the process in case you plan to load Inventory Balance data prior to completing this step.
      Please note that if
      OK
is selected, the Component Balance Audit Report/Finished Goods Balance Audit Report will not generate accurately.
  2. After the Start Transfer Now button is selected the transfer will move all staging transactions, including:
    • FIFO Transactions for any TxnDate equal to, or prior to, the
      Move Staging Data
      for Date selected.
    • Inventory Balance Data for any TxnDate equal to, or prior to, the
      Move Staging Data
      for Date selected
    • Item Master Data
    • HTS Data
    • Manufacturer Data
    • Any other information configured to be loaded
  3. This step will also trigger the validation process, which can be observed in the Transfer of Data Progress section of the screen.
    • Once you start to see messages load on the screen referring to Validation steps completing, you are able to move over to the
      Validation Status and Report
screen where the Validation status will be updated. This is not necessary, as the Staging Data Transfer screen will similarly refresh with Validation status, however, many users prefer to watch the process via the Validation Status and Report screen.
  4. Once Staging Data Transfer is complete, you can move onto the Validation step of the daily processing. Remember, Staging Data Transfer automatically kicks off validation, so there is no need to manually trigger that step. You should be able to go straight to reviewing validation errors/warnings (if there are any).
