About Return XML
With Return XML you can import data into and export data from your tax returns. This round-trip export/import gives you the functionality of authoring tax return data without having to be connected to the product.
important
Beginning with tax year 2024, Return XML won't be available for use. Instead, you can use the tax return import/export feature.
note
Return XML can be used with 1040, 1065, and 1120 return types. In these return types, if a field isn't listed in the build report file, it's not enabled for import/export.
Return XML gives you an alternative way of changing a locator's data in mass. Examples include:
- Change locator number
- Delete existing records
- Add new data records
- Change existing data values
