About Return Register

You must select the tax returns you will file and indicate how frequently you will file them. Return Register information is stored with the entity.

Filing frequency

In addition to selecting your tax returns in
Return Register
, you'll assign a filing frequency for each tax return you select. As a tax return is initially selected, the most common filing frequency for that tax return displays as a default. If your filing frequency for the selected tax return differs from the default displayed, you can then select the frequency that matches your filing requirements. Your selection is saved. The Frequency assignment is used to accumulate your calculated balances for rollup when transferring data to the tax returns.

Force zero / occasional filing

When a filing frequency is selected for a return, the default for the
Occasional Filing
column is Force Zero Return. When this option is selected, a zero return is generated if there isn't any transactional data for the reporting period. This satisfies the requirement when a return must be submitted even if there are no transactions for the reporting period.
The second option is
Occasional Filing
. When this option is selected, a return is generated only if there are transactions for the reporting period. This satisfies the requirement for an occasional filer whose return must be submitted only when there are transactions for the reporting period.
If you change the frequency from the default selection, and then select Stop Filing or Remove to move the return back to the available returns section, the return will show the default selection for frequency the next time you select it. Once you select to stop filing or remove a return, previously assigned frequency settings are not saved going forward.

Remove tax return selections

Removing tax returns is a tool to delete tax returns from Selected Returns without saving the history of the tax return effective date range. This enables you to remove tax returns that may have been selected in error. When the tax return is removed its effective date range history is deleted.

Stop filing tax returns

When you want to stop filing a tax return, the effective date is the last tax period in which you want calculated balances to transfer into the selected tax return. Effective Date defaults to the current tax period.
With the effective date range in place, the history of the tax return is maintained. One benefit of this history is it facilitates the handling of prepayment information across the life of the tax return's filing.
