Set up taxing authorities
The firm administrator (or staff member with security permission to add and edit firm information) should set up taxing authorities to be used in tax areas, which apply state or local taxes to your firm’s invoices.

You'll need to set up taxing authorities before tax areas.
To set up a taxing authority:
- Go to .
- SelectAdd.
- Enter a uniqueDescription.
- Enter the tax rate inRate.
- Select eitherSalesorService taxfrom the list inType.
- Enter the account number inGL Account. This field is optional.
- SelectEnterto save your changes.
