Rules for the share report element

The rules in this section govern how you link financial periods and report elements in Share Report Elements.

Financial period linking rules

  • You can link a target financial period to only 1 source financial period at a time.
  • You can only establish links between the latest financial periods of both the source and target entities.
  • OSR establishes the link at the financial period level, not at the individual report element level.

Report element linking behavior

The
Share Report Element
links individual report elements, not entire reports. OSR adds a linked copy of a shared report element to the target — it doesn't modify or connect existing report elements in the target.
  • You can only link report elements within the established financial period.
  • A target entity can access all shared report elements available in the source financial period.
  • Link any combination of shared report elements to a target report. No limit applies, though linking a large number of elements may affect performance.
Financial period and report element linking example
In this example, Entity A (source) has 3 shared report elements (RE1, RE2, RE3) in the financial period SFP1. Entity C (target) links to SFP1 in financial period TFP1:
  • Report X in Entity C contains a linked copy of RE1 only.
  • Report Y in Entity C contains linked copies of RE1, RE2, and RE3.
  • Report Z in Entity C has no linked copies and remains independent.
A target financial period links to a single source financial period. Within that scope, you can add linked copies of any combination of shared report elements to target reports without restriction.
If you roll forward the target financial period before the source, OSR blocks all linking activity until you also roll forward the source. A broken link indicator appears on the target financial period.
After you roll forward the source, you can use
Relink
to re-establish the connection.
important
You can't create new links or modify existing links while a broken link exists. Select
Relink
to resolve it before you continue.

Bulk share rules

  • Bulk Share
creates linked copies of the source report element across all eligible target entities in their latest financial periods.
  • Financial periods that already contain a conflicting link are automatically skipped, without replacing existing linked copies.
  • Processing continues for all remaining valid financial periods even if some are skipped.
