Set the Practitioner PIN for all 1040 clients filing electronically
You can use the Practitioner personal identification number (PIN) method for all clients instead of using the Self-Select PIN method for each individual client. The Practitioner PIN method lets the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) file tax returns electronically without submitting the client's date of birth, prior-year AGI, or prior-year PIN to the IRS.
Follow these steps to set up the Practitioner PIN.
- SelectSetup, thenOffice Configuration.noteDepending on your security configuration, you may need to enter the master password to open the Office Configuration window. The master password is specified inSetup, thenSecurity.
- Select theE-Filingtab.
- SelectERO.
- Mark thePractitioner PIN Program filercheckbox.noteYou can't use the Practitioner PIN to file Form 2350 extensions electronically. Any PIN data entries for these electronic extensions need to follow the Self-Select PIN procedures and requirements.
- SelectDone.noteWhen you use the Practitioner PIN method, you need to complete the PIN screen, except thePrior year AGIandPrior year taxpayer / spouse PINfields. Also, you don't have to complete theDate of birthfield in the 1040 screen of the General folder.
