About Tax Automation
Tax Automation is a single automated workflow that helps you submit gathered client data and process their information from start to final review.
For tax year 2025, you are now able to create single client gather engagements with tasks to send fillable organizers, ask custom questions, request documents and manage 7216 consent. Batch client gather engagements will be available in the future. You will also be able to send organizers to SafeSend in addition to the previously available functionality to automate the preparation process by extracting data from source documents, verifying results, and importing into UltraTax CS.
Firm mapping is one‑to‑one, which means a single UltraTax CS firm can be mapped to only one corresponding SurePrep domain and one SafeSend company at a time. Multiple mappings are not supported.
How it works
Tax Automation is available if you're licensed for UltraTax CS and SafeSend Gather, or UltraTax CS and SurePrep 1040SCAN PRO, 1040SCANverify Onshore, or 1040SCANverify Offshore. You can upload, process, review, and import data to tax returns.
In Tax Automation you can:
- Create single client Gather engagements and deliver organizers to SafeSend
- Manage 7216 consent
- Monitor Gather engagement statuses
- Change the automated binder creation threshold
- Create binders automatically
- Upload clients' source documents and add them to created binders
- Review and verify that the extracted data is correct and complete
- Import extracted data to tax returns
- Resolve issues that come up during processing
- Download annotated and bookmarked client documents for handy reference
- Import data automatically when you open the client's return
- Review imported data and the client's documents for any additional data entry that's needed for the return
