Troubleshoot Azure Virtual Desktop

Microsoft will retire the Remote Desktop MSI client in March 2026. Thomson Reuters has an approved exception extending Microsoft support through June 30, 2026. Customers won't be expected to transition to the Windows App until after the Spring 2026 tax season and until Microsoft releases a compatible version.
Use the sections here to find tips and troubleshooting steps after you migrate to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

How to launch applications

  • If your applications do not launch, refer to Azure Virtual Desktop apps don't launch.
  • If the sign-in window appears more than once, update your Remote Desktop client
    1. Open Remote Desktop on your device.
    2. Select the three dots to open the menu, then select
      About
      .
    3. If an update is available, select
      Install update
      . Otherwise, your application is up to date.
  • Alternative access:
    • For Mac users: if you want to access
      Virtual Office CS
      on a Mac computer, use Remote Desktop.
    • If you want to use
      Virtual Office CS
      applications without the need to open
      NetStaff CS
      , use Remote Desktop.
  • How to find Microsoft OneNote notebooks in
    Virtual Office CS
    1. Log in to
      NetStaff CS
      .
    2. Launch Microsoft OneNote 2021.
    3. Select
      File
      then
      Info
      .
    4. Browse and select the location you need to access.
    5. Open the notebook.

Print and scan

  • If printing is slow, make sure you set your Default Printer and Default Scanner (if needed).
    • AVD uses TSScan and TSPrint by TerminalWorks to help with print and scan performance.
  • If you are unable to scan, the TerminalWorks TSScan installation may have encountered a problem in your computer. Re-download TSScan from this link: TSScan_client.exe

Specific application tips

  • Accounting CS
  • FileCabinet CS Print Driver
    If you can't print to FileCabinet CS Virtual Office, make sure you only have one print driver installed for that application:
    1. Uninstall all previous FileCabinet CS Virtual Office Print Driver clients.
    2. Sign in to
      NetStaff CS
      .
    3. Select
      Applications
      .
    4. Open
      Setup
      and select
      FileCabinet CS Print Driver
      to download the installation file.
    5. Find the file and run it.
    6. Follow the prompts in the installation wizard.
  • UltraTax CS
    • Update any attachments to your client e-files. Any existing files must be removed and reattached to the client file. When you attached files in Citrix the system used a CLIENT directory. AVD uses a TSCLIENT directory instead.
