Enter A/R adjustments: Write-offs
You can enter adjustments to A/R (Accounts Receivable) balances in Practice CS in the form of credit memos, debit memos, and write-offs.
Write-offs reduce accounts receivable. You can apply them to invoices, service charges, and debit memos. Write-offs are similar to credit memos and are usually used to distinguish the reason for reducing the accounts receivable in the general ledger.
- SelectActions, thenReceipt & Adjustment Entry.
- Enter aControl Date.
- Select theAdjustmentstab.
- Enter theDate. This is the date the transaction will be posted.noteTo change the date to default to theControl dateorToday's date, go to theReceipt & Adjustment Entrytab, and selectSetup, thenUser Preferences.
- Enter or select the client.
- SelectWOinType.
- You can enter aReference Number, if needed.noteTheReference Numberis 30 characters of text that you can use for any purpose.
- Enter theAmountof the write-off.
- If theApplyscreen doesn't open:
- Select the ellipsis
button between the AmountandApplied amountcolumns. - Enter the amount of the write-off to apply next to the invoice or debit memo to apply it to.
- You can enter aCommentto describe the reason for the write-off and who requested or authorized it.
- SelectEnteror press Tab on your keyboard to complete the transaction and move the cursor to the next transaction.
