Set the Practitioner PIN for all 1040 clients filing electronically

You can use the Practitioner personal identification number (PIN) method for all clients instead of using the Self-Select PIN method for each individual client. The Practitioner PIN method lets the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) file tax returns electronically without submitting the client's date of birth, prior-year AGI, or prior-year PIN to the IRS.
Follow these steps to set up the Practitioner PIN.
  1. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Office Configuration
    .
    note
Depending on your security configuration, you may need to enter the master password to open the Office Configuration window. The master password is specified in
    Setup
    , then
    Security
    .
  2. Select the
    E-Filing
    tab.
  3. Select
    ERO
    .
  4. Mark the
    Practitioner PIN Program filer
    checkbox.
    note
You can't use the Practitioner PIN to file Form 2350 extensions electronically. Any PIN data entries for these electronic extensions need to follow the Self-Select PIN procedures and requirements.
  5. Select
    Done
    .
    note
When you use the Practitioner PIN method, you need to complete the PIN screen, except the
    Prior year AGI
    and
Prior year taxpayer / spouse PIN
fields. Also, you don't have to complete the
    Date of birth
field in the 1040 screen of the General folder.
