Self-employment-related deductions from qualified business income

When the income used to calculate the deduction is related to the qualified business, UltraTax CS includes the following deductions for adjusted gross income in the calculation of qualified business income.

Deductible part of self-employment tax

  • For Schedule C and F businesses with self-employment income taxes, the application applies the portion of the activity's self-employed income to total self-employed income to the total on Schedule SE, line 6 — deduction for one-half of self-employment tax.
  • For Partnership activities, UltraTax CS calculates the activities portion of total self-employment income using the
    K1-4
    screen, net earnings (loss) from self-employment amount less partnership-related reductions, and the
    K1-2
    screen, Guaranteed payments amount.

Self-employed SEP, SIMPLE, and qualified plans

This deduction uses the amount computed on the Keough/SEP/SIMPLE Worksheet for each qualified business. For partnerships, the portion of the deduction related to income from guaranteed payments isn't included.

Self-employed health insurance deduction

This deduction uses the amount computed on the Self-Employed Health Insurance Deduction Worksheet for each qualified business. For partnerships, the portion of the deduction related to income from guaranteed payments isn't included.
