Thomson Reuters Announces the Winners of the Independent Research in Responsible Investment Awards 2013

Sustainalytics Scoops Three Major Awards

LONDON - Thomson Reuters Extel and www.SRI-CONNECT.com today announced the results of the Independent Research in Responsible Investment (IRRI) Survey 2013; the authoritative global survey evaluating how asset managers rate the services of independent providers of sustainable and responsible investment (SRI) & corporate governance (CG) research.

Award winner from the major categories were:

  • Best SRI analyst (individual) - Dayna Linley-Jones, Sustainalytics
  • Best SRI analysis (firm) - Sustainalytics
  • Best Corporate Governance analyst (individual) - Kimberly Gladman, GMI Ratings
  • Best Corporate Governance analysis (firm) - GMI Ratings
  • Best Quoted Company for SRI communications - Unilever
  • Best Asset Manager for use of SRI & CG research - PGGM
  • Best Analyst for understanding corporate sustainability - Matthias Beer, F&C
  • Best Salesperson for SRI / Corporate Governance research - Catalina Secreteanu, Sustainalytics

The survey ran through June and July and received responses from 668 analysts and portfolio managers from 142 companies in 30 countries. It asked for quantitative and qualitative responses from asset managers globally on how they rate the SRI research published by independent providers, as well as from the research providers themselves on how well quoted companies communicate their sustainability performance to investment analysts and on how asset managers communicate their research needs.

“We are pleased at the substantial increase in participation in IRRI 2013”, said Steve Kelly, managing director of Extel at Thomson Reuters. “It is a clear signal of investor interest in both sustainability research, and the imperative for such research to be clear-sighted and independent.”

”Alongside the rankings, the IRRI survey explores in depth several of the trends that are driving SRI & corporate governance research”, Mike Tyrrell, Editor of www.SRI-CONNECT.com added. “It guides companies on how to communicate sustainability performance to investors, it explains to research providers what asset managers will need from them in future and it identifies some significant changes in the business model of brokers and independent research providers.”

A report with findings from the survey is available on www.extelsurveys.com.
