Embracing Opportunities: Srikant’s Journey at Thomson Reuters

Srikant, Senior Implementation Consultant

Did you know that we prioritize career development and growth at Thomson Reuters? In 2023, we expect more than half of our positions to be filled with internal talent!

Recently, we met with Srikant, who has been part of the Thomson Reuters team for the past 13 years and moved from India to Poland to begin an opportunity as a Senior Implementation Consultant.  Read our Q&A with him to learn about his career journey at Thomson Reuters.

Tell us about your career journey at Thomson Reuters

I joined Thomson Reuters in 2009. From my very first day, I felt at home. The way everyone interacted with me and welcomed me to the team is something I will never forget. My first role was on the tax and accounting team, where I focused on transfer pricing. As transfer pricing was evolving in terms of global regulations, tax authorities were keeping an eye on profit shifting strategy of companies. Thomson Reuters was a leader in the space, and I was lucky enough to drive and lead several projects that brought new products to the market.

In 2016 and then in 2018, I had opportunities to relocate: first to the United States and then to the United Kingdom. Each time, I faced obstacles pausing my dream of moving to North America or Europe. I remember feeling defeated but never losing hope. Finally, in 2019, I had the opportunity to interview for a role in Gdansk. After two missed attempts, I was unsure about taking another shot at switching roles. My manager encouraged me to embrace this opportunity, and I am grateful for this and Thomson Reuters’ commitment to internal mobility and career development. Finally, after three years, I got the news that I was being offered the role in Gdansk. I was ecstatic and felt that all the years of waiting and hard work had paid off.

What is your current role, and how are you enjoying living and working in Gdansk?

I think Gdansk is probably the most beautiful and historical city in the world. There has not been a single moment where I have felt away from home. My new role here is a Senior Implementation Consultant. I work with our clients to implement Thomson Reuters financial tools to meet their requirements. It is challenging, but I am constantly learning. Some of the skills I use are problem-solving, finance data implementation, and reading and analyzing profit/loss & balance sheet line items. I always feel my learning is never complete, and it keeps me going.

I have always wanted to be in a client-facing role, interacting with customers and managing their financial implementations. Achieving this goal and working directly with our customers motivates me every day.

What does customer obsession mean to you, and how do you keep the customer in mind in your role?

It means everything to me. I am passionate about helping our customers solve their biggest challenges. Sometimes you educate the client, and at times you learn. I always try to be on top of queries, anticipating what is coming and working on it beforehand. Ensuring clients can use products efficiently.

What excites you about the work you do?

Many things excite me about what I do, but a few things that stand out are the problems I am solving, reading P/L & Balance sheet line items, and implementing financial data. I know learning is a constant journey and a process that is never finished, and I enjoy that.
