Thomson Reuters announces new global 16-week parental leave benefit for all teammates

Mary Alice Vuicic, Chief People Officer

As a working parent myself, I know that welcoming a child into a family is a life-changing experience, and one that requires support from family, friends, community, and employers. In fact, studies have shown that giving new parents paid parental leave to adjust and bond with their new child has a positive effect on the physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing of the whole family.

Statutory parental leave around the world varies considerably. In Argentina, for example, current legislation requires employers to pay two working days of paid parental leave for non-birthing parents and no paid parental leave for adoptive or foster parents.

At Thomson Reuters, we celebrate all new parents, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, marital status, family structure, or location. We have spoken to our teammates around the world, and know that supportive parental leave is life changing, specifically in areas where there is little or no legislation to protect the earnings of new parents.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce a new key benefit to our Flex My Way program – Parental Leave, a global minimum standard of paid time that allows all our new parents to care for their new child and create a strong foundation for their family. From April 2023 onward, teammates around the world who are welcoming a new child into their family through birth or adoption will receive a minimum of 16-weeks of paid leave.

This is the latest evolution of our Flex My Way program of supportive workplace policies, designed to make it easier for teammates to manage their personal and professional responsibilities, whether caring for family, giving back to the community, or simply finding time to refresh and reset.

We’re committed to being an organization that makes flexibility and the health and wellbeing of our teammates a priority, and somewhere we are all proud to work. We are tremendously excited for all our new parents and look forward to supporting them – and their flourishing families. We can’t wait to see the new baby photos!
