CoCounsel integration - Introduction and Overview

Generative AI for document reviews

What is CoCounsel?

CoCounsel is the professional-grade, generative AI (GenAI) legal assistant from Thomson Reuters. It uses the best GenAI technology available to deliver the results that legal professionals expect.
CoCounsel is built and maintained by an experienced team of licensed attorneys, machine learning scientists, and AI product developers who subject the technology to thousands of hours of ongoing testing.
CoCounsel has a set of discrete, legal-specific capabilities called 'skills', which it uses to complete substantive legal tasks.
As a legal assistant, CoCounsel helps attorneys and other legal professionals complete their work much more quickly. CoCounsel is not a robot lawyer designed to replace an attorney's independent judgment. Attorneys must always oversee the assistance they receive.

What does the integration with CoCounsel bring to HighQ?
The integration adds 'CoCounsel Document Skills' that provide many opportunities to apply CoCounsel skills in HighQ.
Most commonly, it is used to extract insights using skills such as 'Document Review' or create summaries using the 'Summarization' skill. Importantly, the integration allows HighQ users to seamlessly process files stored in the Files module using the CoCounsel skills, and store the skill's responses in iSheet columns so that the resulting data can be used like any other iSheet data, driving workflows, visualisations and reports.
note
Ask your Thomson Reuters Account Manager, Customer Success Manager, Solutions Consultant or Professional Services contact to discuss enabling the features in your HighQ instance.
How does HighQ identify CoCounsel subscribers?
HighQ and CoCounsel use different authentication mechanisms, although they may be integrated with your enterprise Single Sign-On system. Each HighQ user must authenticate themselves with CoCounsel through a HighQ pop-up window, using their OnePass or Thomson Reuters account, or your secure SSO system. This process provides enhanced security and seamless access across applications but must be periodically re-authenticated to maintain security.
How is my company’s HighQ data handled with the CoCounsel integration?
The integration allows for files in HighQ sites to be securely transferred to CoCounsel for analysis by skills, through links to or selections of CoCounsel databases in your company’s CoCounsel workspace, which are created and managed by your CoCounsel users.
CoCounsel databases are not permissioned in the same way as HighQ sites, their folders and files. Therefore, use of the CoCounsel integration and management of CoCounsel databases should be handled with care for any HighQ sites which apply document permissions, to prevent the visibility of files in CoCounsel to a user who would not be able to view them in HighQ.
How is my data handled with the CoCounsel integration?
As with any integration with an AI system, processing HighQ content with AI processes requires files to be securely transferred to the AI system and often stored in situ for future use. As CoCounsel is a Thomson Reuters system, you can be safe in the knowledge that your content is securely stored in both systems.
CoCounsel uses the concepts of 'Databases', 'Matter files' and 'Chat files' to allow users to upload, manage, share or individually use documents with its skills. Site Administrators can control where CoCounsel files can be transferred, including the option to store files in databases that are hidden from the CoCounsel application interface, which adds security to data that is HighQ-specific.
What other features does the integration with CoCounsel bring?
New features powered by CoCounsel are also being introduced, such as:
  • 'Self-serve Q&A' - An AI-powered, self-service Q&A panel integrated into the HighQ platform, accessible in Custom Pages dashboards. It helps external users query a curated document database in natural language and receive immediate, relevant answers to legal or business questions.
